We held our International Lunch at the Community Centre in Dursley.  Honey Roast Gammon, new potatoes, cauliflower cheese and peas were on the menu, to be followed by delicious apple pie and cream!  Around 55 guests attended and, together with the raffle, a really good amount was raised for International Charities supported by our club.  Many thanks to all those who helped make the day such a success.

One of the charities  we are supporting is the Kambia District Foundation and we were able to welcome Simon and Jen David who joined us for lunch and gave a presentation on the charity.  Kathleen Martin has written the following report:

'A new charity is being supported by the Inner Wheel Club of Dursley this year and will benefit from a fund-raising lunch organised by International Service Organiser, Gill Davis.

Set up in September 2017 by locally based couple, Simon and Jen Davis, the Kambia District Foundation aims to promote health and education in Sierra Leone.

Working as a nurse in the country for around 12 years, Jen found that only a small number of children were being educated and saw the need for a school which could help improve the lives of the next generation.

Thanks to their hard work  the school has now opened and there are 450 pupils attending each day.  There is still a desperate need for toilet facidlities, books, desks, blackboards and play equipment, as well as a minibus.

Praising Simon and Jen for all the work they were putting in, Gill thanked them for their talk which she felt outlined the efforts which were oing into achievig a very worthwhile project.'
