PEACE TREES ON THE GREEN LINE
On "Green Monday", February 19th, several Club members and their wives attended a historic walkabout in Nicosia with the President of Rotary International, Ian Riseley, and his wife Juliet, culminating in the planting of three Peace Trees on the Green Line separating the two Cyprus communities - one each by Ian and Juliet, and the third by District Governor Christina Covotsou-Patroclou. One of Rotary's prime objects is the promotion of internatonal peace and goodwill, and it was heartening to see Rotarians from both sides of the border joining together in Rotary fellowship. The event was followed by a substantial lunch and traditional entertainment.

TREE PLANTING IN PAPHOS
Inspired by the RI President's excellent example (see above), early in March Paphos Aphrodite Rotarians and willing helpers planted two mulberry trees and some smaller plants at the Margarita Liasidou centre for adults with special needs.
VASILOPITA NEW YEAR EVENT
Around 30 Rotarians, spouses and guests gathered at Muse Restaurant, Paphos Old Town, on January 11th to welcome 2018 with the traditional Greek "Vasilopita" New Year Cake after enjoying some good food and drink. The lucky winner of a coin in the cake can expect good fortune this year, and it was very nice that a guest, Dougie Pitt from Scotland (guest of Michael Dayus) won the prize. Those of us near a loud boom-box spewing out a repetitive beat were somewhat put off our food, but maybe those further away evaded a headache !

CHRISTMAS GLUHWEIN EVENT
The Club pulled together in great style for the annual gluhwein-and-sausages event. With a prime site on Kennedy Square in Paphos Old Town, the food and drink flowed freely and the Club raised a lot of money towarda a new minibus for the Cyprus Autisic Association. Many thanks to event orgaiser George Kafizas, star gluhwein maker Julia Rautenschlein, and everybody who helped.

THE PALEO LIFESTYLE
A very interesting talk from a leading anthropologist at the Club meeting on November 23rd, describing what we can learn from the cavemen.
TALK BY THE SWEDISH AMBASSADOR
The Club was pleased to welcome Sweden's Ambassador to Cyprus, Anna Olsson Vrang (pictured below) , to speak to us on November 14th. A diplomat for 18 years, engaging and articulate, Anna gave us her thoughts on the Cyprus reunification talks, the close links between Sweden and Cyprus, and Sweden's major contribution to the UN peacekeeping mission to Cyprus. She then invited questions from attendees. Sweden is one of Europe's most progressive and liberal countries, and it was a pleasure to hear from its Cyprus representative.
(NB Club will not meet on 10, 17 or 24 August, 21 and 28 December and 4 January due to holidays.)Anemi Hotel, Kikerion Street, Kato Paphos. Cyprus. 00357 26945666
