11th DISTRICT 127 CARAVAN RALLY
I was asked to organise this year’s district caravan rally with Ian’s help!!!
After investigating a number of ideas put forward by those attending previous rallies we opted to go to a site ON TOP OF A HILL nr Tansley, Matlock. Now on our knees praying for good weather! Thankfully the weekend chosen, 4th to the 7th October, answered our prayers and 16 caravans with 30 people booked up to attend.
Friday by tradition has a Golf Match and with Rex Tulley’s help this took place at Matlock Golf Course. The worst day of the weekend for weather, a little blustery and damp but I don’t suppose Terry Coffey of Lincoln noticed the cold as he was declared the winner. The evening was spent at Crich Tramway Museum for a Hotpot meal in the village pub. They even put the bunting out and allowed in the 4 dogs, which added to the rally numbers.
Saturday morning dawned bright and sunny with beautiful views from the caravan site. We took a short walk from Cromford Mill via old rail inclines to High Peak Junction (Coffee Stop and LOOS.) then back along the canal to the mill.
Today District Chairman Mavis and, of course, Michael joined us at lunch time and stayed overnight at the hostelry where we took our evening meal.
Sadly Sunday came all too quickly as some had to return home, whilst others managed to stay on until the day after (Mostly Pensioners).
